Marvin and Marilyn Weiss purchased the Cele Store in 1951 from R. A. Rust. The name “Cele” came from Custer’s granddaughter “Lucille”. The business started out as a general store. Items sold included groceries, drug goods, cold cuts, seed and feed. In 1958, Marvin began serving BBQ for take-out. Pool and shuffleboard games took place in the back room of the store. Those who didn’t play pool or shuffleboard participated in domino games. Turkey shoots were held each Sunday.
BBQ is cooked slowly on the brick pit built in 1964 by masonry master, August Mills, cousin to Marilyn Weiss.
Serving the very best pork ribs, sausage and brisket in Texas. Known for the very best BBQ sauce. KVET DJ Bob Cole loves the sauce so much he drinks it with a straw.
The Cele Store still houses many historical pictures, antiques, and the original bar from the store when it was called the Richland Saloon in 1890. Pictured below are Marilyn Weiss and her grandson Brandon who now operates the store.
